Titan's Tale

Titan is truly an inspiration.  Born with a rare bone deformity making it nearly impossible to walk, he has touched the hearts of Second Chance's volunteers and its many supporters with his friendly and loving nature.  More importantly, he has reminded us that with hope and support, enormous challenges and obstacles can be overcome.

Thank you to Titan's supporters who recognize his "special purpose" in bringing hope and encouragement to those that face similar obstacles and challenges.

Thank you to the students of South Meadow School in New Hampshire who raised $400 to buy Titan his first wheelchair!

Thank you to the volunteers in Washington, DC that have made it possible for him to obtain corrective surgery and prosthetic legs.  Dr. Shirley, Dr. Langenbach, and Derrick Campana have truly given Titan a second chance!

Titan's Journey Begins~

Because of his deformity, Titan's owners, who were breeding puppies to sell for profit, did not want him and they were advised to put him down.  Although needing lots of love and special care, Second Chance recognized Titan's tremendous spirit immediately and knew they had to help him.  His rescuers saw, by one look that Titan would serve a great purpose to bring hope and encouragement to many friends who also had huge obstacles to overcome.  Titan definitely deserved a second chance!

Titan was welcomed into the shelter where he soon became a favorite and just "one of the pack," playing with the other rescues.  In an effort to get Titan the chance he deserved, the rescue sought out the assistance of Alexandria, Virginia veterinarians Dr. Bridget Shirley, DVM and Dr. Kristin Terrio, DVM, supporters of Second Chance's efforts, to investigate options for helping Titan.  Luckily, Animal OrthoCare's Derrick Campana, a pioneer is designing and providing prosthetic and braces for dogs, and Dr. Anke Langenbach, a renown veterinary surgeon, responded to our plea for help.

With a team and plan in place to get Titan "on his paws," Titan traveled to Washington, DC and was welcomed by his new foster mom, Dr. Shirley, and the team dedicated to helping him through his journey.  Months after his arrival, Titan has finally received his first prosthetic limbs and corrective surgery.  He is learning to walk all over again, which is an enormous challenge.  Titan will eventually need more surgery and a second prosthetic because he is growing so fast.  Titan is a rescue with very special needs.  Not only does he need a permanent home, but he also needs assistance with his growing veterinary bills.

Every dollar helps this amazing cause!

Stay tuned for Titan updates and pictures!

Our Second Chance Team would like to recognize the amazing efforts of DERRICK CAMPANA, Orthotics Consultant.  It's with his passion and belief that everyone deserves hope that is changing so many lives.
